Looks awesome for sure. I just got mine the other day and must say I am deeply impressed with it. Definitely the best kit cockpit Hasegawa have produced yet. The cockpit floor is unreal!

I'll be looking forward to seeing how you get on with this one mate. Good thing we have Christoph here to let us know where the danger of going wrong is.

Cheers mate,

Jay

Cheers,
Chris

Exactly right Jim, the floor is superb. Sorry Chris!

Ok guys,

no work on the floor but iīll try to remove the frames on the windscreen. Hopefully it wonīt be a total lost, after i dipped it into FUTURE. The MasterCaster Sanding Sticks can do their magic now... biggrin.gif

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for posting the kit.
Interesting kit and good details made by Hasegawa.
I'm waiting the 'N'.

Ok, then here we go with paint. Just back from the banch with the latest pics.

...*bling bling* again without that wronge frame...

A view of the instrument panel. It still needs a black wash.

Overall view

Cockpit pics. I hopefully hit the "Curtiss Cockpit Green"

In the last pic is clearly visible the difference. The pedals are in Interior Green (Gunze H58) while the rest was foged with Olive Drab to reach the Curtiss Cockpit Green.

Next up is the detail painting and then a wash.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

good work on the cockpit.

Why not for the wheel for a N. The wheels are from True Details ?
I know a P-40 N in France near my house and it's easy for me to have access.

Cheers

Great stuff Chris. Did you pick out the instrument dials by drybrushing?

Thanks all! smile.gif

@ SPang: N yes, E unfortunately not. blush.gif

@ Jim: I first thought, the frame was done as a raised panel line. That would be easy to remove. Of course it was not, but finely engraved. dry.gif So i took a half round scalpell balde and scratched carefully along the frame till it was gone. After that i used MasterCasterīs Sanding Sticks to polish it again. Then i took a polish fluid (for cell phone [or Handy, like we say here] displays from the electronic market) and polished it a bit more by using a cotton stick. The secret was, to polish the complete left and right window, as the part already was diped into FUTUTRE, that means it becomes milky first when polishing. The last step was to dip it into FUTUTRE again. Et voila, there it is smile.gif It took me over an houre though.
Not only the windscreen is looking Trumpeter like, all the rivets too, arenīt they? But i like it.

@ Piet: Yes mate, lots of carefully drybrushing. As soon as it is sealed in FUTUTRE iīll do a black wash to the dials. Perhaps some more black drybrushing, to darken the panel agian. It became a little to white during drybrushing the dials.

Cheers mates,
Chris

But from what i know, later P-40īs were refited with this wheels, so iīll use them. That are True Details Mustang wheels.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

re. wheels: Christoph has already put you on the right track for your build. However, the resin wheels are, as you say, Mustang wheels. Even late P-40s (N series) had different wheels: the number of spokes is not the same as on P-51 wheels. At least that was the case with the P-40N that I did research on (a Desert Air Force Kitthawk Mk. IV of the Italian camapign).
Not of importance now, but perhaps it will be in a couple of months, when a P-40N hits your workbench. biggrin.gif

And what a build, man! This is already awesome and will be just mind-blowing once finished! Can't hardly wait to see you finish it!

Keep it coming!

Yes it seems i have to use the kit wheels.

I do have a question, the headcushion, leather brown or black? Anyone?

Cheers,
Chris

Chris, I had a look at my refs and it seems to be a leather tan colour, so light brown with a wash would work!
Great job so far!
Cheers mate!

Totally agree with Alan Chris, definitely not black so a leathery brown. Those birds were well weathered so give the headrest a worn look.
